Bastiaan Rijpkema (1987) received his LL.B. at the Erasmus University Rotterdam and his LL.M. in Jurisprudence and Philosophy of Law (cum laude) from Leiden University. He is now a PhD Candidate at the Department of Jurisprudence where he teaches legal theory. His dissertation, which is supervised by Professor Paul Cliteur, concerns the relationship between democracy and the rule of law. His main research interests lie within the field of Jurisprudence and Political Philosophy, more specifically: problems in sovereignty, state authority, democracy and theories of judicial interpretation.
