Bruno Braak (1987) studied Cultural Anthropology at Leiden University and Peace and Conflict Studies at St Andrews University. After internships with the Netherlands Embassy in Sudan, NRC Handelsblad and Clingendael, he started working at the Van Vollenhoven Institute in 2012. Bruno assisted Dr Janine Ubink with research on the intestate succession rights of women in Sub-Sahara Africa. More recently, his work has focused on the interaction between customary and statutory legal systems in fragile states, and in particular South Sudan. Bruno is currently on PhD-fieldwork in Yambio, South Sudan. He is also the founder and editor-in-chief of War and Peace talk.
