Nelleke Koffeman

Nelleke Koffeman graduated from Leiden University in 2006, with a master diploma in Constitutional and Administrative law. During and shortly after her studies she, inter alia, did internships with the human rights department of the Dutch Ministry of Justice (The Hague) and with the Permanent Representation of the Netherlands to the Council of Europe (Strasbourg). In 2007 she taught the Moot Court course to undergraduate students at the Leiden Law School. Subsequently she was appointed as PhD fellow and lecturer at the Europa Instituut of this Law School. In 2008, Koffeman contributed to the network of legal experts of the EU Fundamental Rights Agency and in that capacity co-authored various studies, including a comparative legal study on child trafficking in the EU. Her dissertation entitled ‘Morally sensitive issues and cross-border movement in the EU. The cases of reproductive matters and legal recognition of same-sex relationships’ was published by Intersentia in November 2015. Nelleke Koffeman has visited various foreign universities in the course of her PhD research, including NUI Galway (Ireland), Humboldt Universität zu Berlin (Germany) and Fordham University (New York). In 2015 she was appointed assistant professor at the Leiden Europa Institute. Koffeman lectures and coordinates various courses in European (human rights) law, both at bachelor and master level.
