Currently, there are no clear limits on the analysis of data on computers in criminal investigations. Limits for data analysis may be desirable considering the privacy infringement that occurs when information on computers is seized and analysed.
Is the FBI allowed to remotely install spyware on computers? And what if the suspect lives outside the United States? What are the capabilities of such “policeware”? This blog post briefly analyzes a decision of a U.S. judge on this subject.
