Machteld Vonk

I have been working at the Child Law Department of Leiden University Law School as lecturer and researcher since July 2012. From October 2002 till July 2012, I was employed at the department of Family Law, Comparative Law and Private International Law of the Molengraaff Institute of Private Law at Utrecht University, where I also wrote a comparative legal PhD-thesis on the legal relationship between children and their non-biological parents.

My research interests include the legal position of ‘new’ families, all legal aspects of the child-parent relationship, the use of mediation in conflicts involving children and the legal position of children in society as a whole. In my research I try to add a comparative angle, because I think we can generally learn quite a lot from studying legal phenomena in other legal traditions. I aim to publish both in Dutch and in English journals.
